OUR PURPOSE

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Conocimiento is a youth prevention-based program that makes use of a community collaboration process to reduce adverse outcomes in adolescents living with ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences). Youth receive wellness and cultural education and develop leadership skills while breaking down small-town rivalries. ACEs have proven to create an impact on the youth’s long-term health leading to trauma. Being exposed to trauma impacts the youth by creating a toxic-stress response. The response disrupts normal functioning of the human brain and could lead to health and mental health problems to children, teenagers and adults.

• Learning cultural values by learning, practicing and celebrating our heritage.
• Breaking the Stigma of gang violence and bringing cohesion with Fillmore and Santa Paula youth.
